BOB

A BOB (Blitter Object) is a software-rendered graphical object on the Amiga that is drawn and moved using the Blitter chip rather than the dedicated sprite hardware. Unlike hardware sprites, which are overlayed by the Denise chip, BOBs are copied directly into the bitplane data, allowing for larger sizes and more colors but requiring the background to be saved and restored to prevent destructive drawing. They were extensively used in Amiga games for animated characters and objects that exceeded the limitations of the eight available hardware sprites, leveraging the Blitter's ability to handle masking, shifting, and logical operations in hardware.
