Amber

Amber is a custom video processor chip introduced in the Commodore Amiga 3000 that functions as a flicker fixer and scan doubler. It eliminates screen flicker in interlaced display modes by converting the native 15kHz interlaced video signal to a 31kHz non-interlaced signal using 64KB of dedicated VRAM to buffer and double scan lines. This capability allowed the A3000 to drive standard VGA monitors directly, eliminating the need for specialized 15kHz Amiga monitors and improving compatibility with contemporary display technology.
