68020

The Motorola 68020 is a 32-bit microprocessor that served as the CPU in numerous Amiga accelerator cards and the Amiga 2500/020, offering significantly improved performance over the stock 68000 found in most Amigas. It features a 256-byte instruction cache, 32-bit address and data buses, and dynamic bus sizing, allowing it to address up to 4GB of memory compared to the 68000's 16MB limit. While maintaining backward compatibility with 68000 software, the 68020 enabled faster processing and was often paired with additional Fast RAM on accelerator boards to overcome the Amiga's original memory limitations.
